Removing drive belt
10/12/22 at 23:39:50

Is there an easy way to remove the drive belt, without removing the rear tire? I don't even need it off completely, just off the front pulley so I can remove the front pulley to inspect the area of the stator cover where it leaks.

Nope, You don't have to remove the wheel, but you'll have slide the wheel forward a bit to get slack in the belt to get the pulley off.
Remove the shock, and belt guard.

But don't do anything until you get the pulley nut loose.

I'm thinking of using an impact gun to get the pulley nut loose.

Sorry for noob questions, but how do I slide the tire forward, do I need a lift for it? A lot of disassembly?

loosen the axle, back off the axle adjusters and it'll slide forward.
you might want to lift the back end, but you don't have to.

I will have to try it, never done it before. When I remove the shock, do I need a press to put it back on?

No, should be fine if you don't touch the right side one.

You might have some misalignment if it's more than putting a bolt into a hole.

So glad I wont be needing to remove it as I found the source of my leak elsewhere.

To get my belt off, I took off the LH stator cover which allowed the belt to slip over the front pulley. Don't know if it's more work, but I wanted to replace the LH cover gasket anyways and avoided fooling with the front pulley.

Sounds like a Pro Tip to me. I thought the only way to get that belt off was pull the pulley, and that Is some drama if you don't have an impact.
I've never had to pull the stator cover, so I don't really know just how much of a hassle it is. But that is at least an option.
