For a product that works as advertised.

Excerpt

St. Louis has a violent crime problem. What’s causing crime in the city? The Mayor’s war against the police? The prosecutor letting criminals run wild? Evidently city ‘leaders’ think it’s…the cars. Yes—car manufacturers are to blame not criminals. You can’t make this stuff up.”

I don't see a way to look at that and not understand how ridiculous it is to sue the manufacturer. YaKnow, armed citizens have been known to make the CahJakkin game not fun anymore. In 73 the governor of Louisiana told the people
If you want to protect yourself from the CahJakkin folks, get a gun.
And many people Did. And the CahJakkin reports in the news largely changed to
Attempted CahJakkin, that ended with a thug thrashing around in the street, gutshot and bleeding. Didn't take long before the CahJakkin reports trailed off from several a day to a few a month.

Now, while everyone who isn't an idiot gets that suing a manufacturing company for someones bad behavior that the manufacturer has no control over, maybe it's a good time to point out how absolutely incomprehensible it is to think it's Right to sue a gun manufacturer because someone used their product illegally.
But Wait! It was the red car that killed those people!!
All by itself! It took control over the steering and the gas and the guy sitting behind the wheel was just a passenger at that point. He didn't have anything to Do wiffitt!
He Dindu Nuffin!

If it is an "alleged defect" then there is grounds to sue.  Specifically the word "defect" and only the word "defect" with the exemption of all other known words.

Now if it is "easier" then the grounds are not there, unless, there is some regulatory requirement (like airbags) in regards to theft deterence.

Obviously catching the criminals is the better deal, but I can see where situations that far exceed the public tax funding of the local LEO would have to mitigated by other means.
