Wiring colors
10/10/22 at 15:49:30

Hey Riders,
I’m not a newbie to street riding…been about 10 years.

I’m trying to get a little more intimate with my Savage ( 2011) by learning about her  inner workings!

She has been stored somewhere for the last year.
In the process of cleaning , checking  , doing the  general maintenance stuff … when I took the seat off , I was met with unfamiliarity!
The wiring schematic , the rectifier, even the  BRIGHT COLORS of the pig tail connectors!
I’ve been under and over this bije since I bought it new, so I’m not a BIG DUH, but it doesn’t look “normal”?
Im including pics .
Can y’all give a lady a little help here.,.
…have I taken too many rides in my youth without s helmet or  had my girl been “re-wired”?!
I guess it’s a blessing if it’s done the way STOCK SET UP IS  yeah?

If so however it was without my consent!
( even stranger, or maybe it’s the precipice to my  raised eyebrows  but my
CLYMER MANUAL is vanished from its spot too! Embarrassed

Thank you !
Cheers!

Here is  a link to the wiring diagram thread in the Technical Section:
http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1294779818

In General:

Any wire with a stripe is controlled by a switch.

Black is ground.
Brown is running lights.
Red is from the battery positive terminal.
Orange is power after the ignition switch.
White and yellow are the headlight low and high beam power wires.
Grey and green are right/left turn signals.

Coloring and routing can vary a bit with the year built.

Got to disagree with Dave.  Ground is black with a white stripe.

I know.. I will be shot at dawn.  I will just sleep in until noon.  Tongue

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Stacy,

No pictures were attached. If you attach a photo, we can photo shop some descriptions.

Is this need to know what the various color wires do a curiosity, or is there a problem you are trying to correct?
