Stuck Mixture screw - only1 turn
09/25/22 at 09:26:20

I was able to pull the plug off my mixture screw. Now I only can get one full turn out of it. I should be able to make at least 3 turns?

Any ideas on how to free up my mixture screw without removing the carb?

Start with a good penetrating oil.
Wet it every day for a few days
Get some picks from Harbor Freight
Take the 90# one and shape the tip to fit the threads
Screw the screw in
Start cleaning up the threads
Work a while, test by Gently backing it out.
A good light and maybe one of those Jewelers hoods, with the magnifying lenses.
Your age will probably be importing in that decision.

Thanks. I sprayed it with carb cleaner before dark. I'll start the penetrating oil tomorrow.

I have been able to get a good look at the screw head with a flashlight. It is a shallow slot and it will not handle much torque.

The threads in the aluminum body corrode, and they restrict the brass screw from coming out easily.  The brass is soft and it is very easy to strip the slot.

And.......if you are able to get the screw out - if you don't clean up the threads with a tap the screw can strip the slot when putting it back in.

If it strips - use the torx bit method to remove it, then order a new screw and clean up the threads in the carb with a tap before you put the new screw in (and lubricate the threads with a small amount of grease to prevent future corrosion.
