Persistent oil leak from stator cover
09/23/22 at 21:23:49

Hey guys, I posted about this before, and I'm still fighting it.

Back about 2-3 month or so ago, I did an oil change using Liqui Moly 4T synthetic motorcycle oil, and that very same day or the next day my bike developed a small leak from the stator cover. It started as very minor, but over time got pretty bad. I replaced the gasket myself, but it leaked right away. Took it to the mechanics, they said i didnt put the gasket in right, adjusted it and the leak stopped for about 100 miles, and started again. Bought another new gasket, mechanics replaced it again, and it leaked right away.

I'm at a loss here, is this location just tough to seal or what? I am thinking of giving it another try perhaps with black gasket maker as the last resort.

where is it leaking from?

there are 2 options, 1)gasket 2)black plug

The gasket can be a little tricky but there are 2 locator pins to help.
I didn't add any rtv to it, just put it in and hope the magnets in the rotor don't crush your fingers.

You can pull the plug out and coat the mating surfaces with rtv.
and you can pull the wires a bit and coat them and pull them back to the original location.

Its leaking the bottom, completely dry on the top where the plug is. The drop seems to always form on the head of the rearmost bottom bolt on the cover, and it keeps on dripping from there.

That is a good idea to pressurize it to see exactly where its coming out.

Yep, the plug is leaking. Not sure if the bottom of the gasket is leaking too, or if the oil is just traveling down.

Yep. Will attack the plug and hopefully resolve it for good.
