Shifter cover removal - needs removing belt pulley
09/01/22 at 17:08:41

Just replaced my stator cover gasket, now need to do shifter cover gasket. One of the bolts is covered by the front belt pulley, no way to access it.

What am looking at to remove the front pulley, I've never done anything like that.

Just remove the pulley cover, bend the tab down on the lock washer, get a big a$$ socket, a long a$$ breaker bar and have at it. buhaha   Oh, rotate it the way the wheels rotate forward.  Smiley

There are a couple of ways to keep the pulley from rotating while you do this, but the easiest way is to slip a small straight sided socket between the pulley and belt.  It will pinch the belt between the case and pulley and stop it real good.

Ugh, that makes sense. Do you by any chance know the size of the socket?

Also, before I get to the pulley removal, how the hell do I remove the belt?   Undecided

Replaced the gaskets, everything was nice and dry, took the bike to NJ to meet up with my riding buddies this morning. Made it to the meet, about 70 miles out from where I am, checked for leaks, everything bone dry. Then we went for the ride, and I was running the bike very hard keeping up with two MT-10s and one R1, and the dreaded oil leak is back even worse than before.

I wonder if the oil I use is playing a part, maybe I should switch back to mineral oil as I am using synthetic now.
