Screaming eagle muffler

Hello all  Smiley
I am new to the Savage forms and the owner of a 2017 S40 .
The carb has not been modified inside , I did pull the brass plug
from the side for the fuel mixing screw .
I recently purchased a harley screaming eagle and fitted the muffler on the bike .
I quickly tested It out and it sounds amazing but huge backfires and sluggish ... But I knew this was going to happen .
This muffler has the baffle still in place , but has more flow then a regular dyna muffler .
Should I continue with this muffler or will it be too much effort to get it to work .  Undecided
If so what would you recommend for a jet kit or ect

A screaming eagle will require work to get it functional.
I quite trying to use them years ago.
A Harley Dyna or Supertrap will work better.
The Dyna is more cost effective.

Thank you Lancer for your reply I really appreciate it ... Which Supertrap do you recommend ... Will it need a jet kit also .
Id like to try and keep it as reliable as possible .

I paid the money for the Trapp, thought it was cool. Next savage I went with the Harley muffler, sounded fine, easy to get the carburetor happy, tons less money.
I wouldn't do the Trapp again if I was rich. Just not worth the money and the hassle. It's Not gonna change your time on the quarter mile any more than the Harley muffler.

It's personal choice, but I also think the Dyna looks right on the Savage.  It's the right length and overall size.

$40 on ebay for a dyna, what's not to like?
Get the one with the rail attachment, without the catalyst. The chrome is really good!
Cheers!  Cool

Anyone know if you can just knock or cut out the catalyst screen? Or is there more to it than just the screen?

How are these guys running a straight pipe or muffler with no baffles...  ???? Even those Emgo mufflers have almost nothing in them for back pressure .

If they prefer noise over a decent running bike, that is how to get there.

TOC: I think the Dyna with the catalyst is only for Cali. The correct Dyna is this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/134158296314?epid=1423002824&hash=item1f3c7524fa:g:9...
The rail attachment is that rectangular thingy. It uses a 7/16" lag bolt.
Cheers!  Cool
ps: you can buy one for $40, not $140!!!

Though I have a Voodoo slash on my ‘03’ and a long Delkevic on my “11”, they both have 2 additional baffles in each. That said, a Dyna makes a lot of sense if you think about it. For one it is one of 2 mufflers on a Harley and half a Harley is about the same cc as our single. Second, it is a fully conforming exhaust to regulations, Harley just engineered it to be more “Harley” sounding.

That said catalytic baffles are a great option. They bolt in and you can easily modify them by drilling a hole through middle and partially plug them by bolting a washer/fender washer on both ends to increase back pressure. They are available in different diameters and if needed you can make a sleeve and tack it on or just fit it when installing. I have them inserted in the back end of mufflers on of both my bikes. On the “03”, with the Voodoo I have a standard small diversion baffle at end of the connector between the header and muffler. On the other I have a second smaller catalytic installed in the connector from header to muffler. Photo is first baffle on Voodoo bolted to connector, it inserts into the muffler.
