Why did she go to Taiwan?
Why would the Chinese care?
Did we just announce she was going, just to see if the Chinese would have something to say?
And then when they did, we kinda Had to send her?
Surely someone here has some idea.
I got nothing

“The Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 obligates the US to support us in our self-defense, to maintain capabilities, and to resist coercion,”
China, much like Russia with the Ukraine, wants Taiwan back.
...but the reason Taiwan and Ukraine are so valuable has come from their ties with the west.

I'm in no way any kind of expert on Taiwan, and I still don't understand how Pelosi visiting accomplishes anything, but I Think I saw something about Taiwan being It as far as computer chip production.
I've recently seen a Biden quote that was something along the lines of
We support Taiwan in their desires to be their own nation
And then I saw another quote, but I don't think it was Biden that was pretty much putting distance between them and us. I just don't know what to believe right now. Unless Someone can throw down a Readers Digest level explanation, I'm just gonna hafta wait and see. You offered Some information Row,but it's not enough for me to feel like I have a clue about Why she is there. No idea what America gains from this. Thanks for what you did.

I understand Taiwan is important to the US.  But why Nancy, what not Blinken, why not an ambassador?

As Speaker of the House, she should go. We should flip China the bird and tell them we’re the United Fc€king States of America and we’ll go wherever the hell we want to. I’m fine with that.

My problem is China Joe is so far up China’s a$$ making money off them when he was a VP, I wonder what’s going on in the background. Biden’s a f’ing traitor, we know that so what’s the real plan?

Political relationships are measured by the level of representative that countries receive.
Pelosi is second in line to the Presidency.
While she's on tour Asia,... it would be a slight for her not to stop there, and America would look weak against China.

https://www.aa.com.tr/en/asia-pacific/taiwan-receives-first-us-house-speaker-...

Pelosi, the first speaker of the US House of Representatives to visit Taiwan in 25 years, will meet Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and also engage with Taiwanese lawmakers.

In 1997, Republican Newt Gingrich was the last House speaker to visit the self-ruled island.
