Mystery Hoses?
07/11/22 at 09:33:45

Longtime reader, first time poster...

I recently bought the following Mikuni carb for '17 S40:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GZK7LG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

After two long days, it's finally on (this is my most ambitious project yet) with the accompanying new throttle cable and flange.

Although I tried to stay organized, I'm left with a couple questions:

In the picture, you'll find two hoses (the vacuum hose and a mystery hose). I cannot for the life of me figure out where they're supposed to connect to the new Mikuni carb.

The funny thing is that the bike runs beautifully now and I'm left wondering if these two components are superfluous? But the rational side of me thinks that Suzuki engineers wouldn't leave anything extraneous on one of their machines.

What am I meant to do with these?

Thank you!

Best,

Tomato

P.S. I broke the two hose clamps for the Air Box / Carb connection and the Engine / Carb connection. New ones arrive today and will be installed.

And I should mention that the "mystery hose" runs down the back of the airbox. I'd take it all apart to get to the bottom of it but my back, finger tips, and patience need a recovery day.

Good choice , it gonna run great. Those hoses need to be plugged or removed and capped or plugged at the other end. If you don’t have a Raptor petcock , get one. Only buy the OEM from Yamaha. A Raptor petcock with Mikuni carb are the $hit for these bikes , just make sure you have no vacuum leaks. Your on the right track.

Thank you very much the reply. Very, very helpful.

I'll order a raptor petcock today. Is the following link one to go with?

https://www.amazon.com/Raptor-YFM660R-Petcock-Compatible-Ketofa/dp/B07F9MXJ3Z...

Although the bike accelerates like a dream now, the bike is gasping for fuel at full throttle. Would this be related to the hoses being unplugged? Or is it an issue of just going with going with the stock Mikuni jets and not doing a proper tune?

No, not a "Raptor Compatible" for $8.  They're too narrow. Get the real deal.  Should be about $30.
