Who knew? Maybe I'm the only one. Anyway, here it is. If you can get to it, perhaps less mess changing the filter.

Nope.....that is not the drain plug.  That is a threaded hole where they drilled the passages for the oil filter flow.

The drain plug is on the bottom of the engine on the left side, and it is threaded horizontally.

Exactly. Not the oil drain plug, but the oil FILTER drain plug. The cast passage from the oil filter chamber leads to the chromed drain plug, mounted vertically (circled).
