What are my chances of still being able to ride?
04/03/22 at 19:48:48

I have been riding motorcycles for all of my adult life and I have have never had any doubts that I would be able to continue. In January I had to have a Complete Reverse Shoulder Replacement on my right shoulder. I have had over 17 orthopedic surgeries and none of them have been as painful or limiting as this. My question is have any of you had this same surgery and how did it affect your ability to do 200-300 mile rides. I am hopeful that your answers are positive. Thanks in advance.

Hi Job

17 orthopedic surgeries     ?   Feeling a little like Job are ya ?
From somewhere between the Flood and Abram's time .   for a 4,000 year old guy , I's say your keeping up with the Tech World just fine .   Grin    We would like to know "Who wrote your adventures down for us"

You know the weight of your bike makes a "World of Difference" .

That is one of the things about the LS650 we all have is .  At just over 350 pounds its a toy that can run 100 mph and cruise all day at 70-75 mph.   Smiley

The LS650 also has the LOW-SEAT and the weight rides low on the Axles.
Yea , I know a big bike can ride low on the Axles too , but a light bike that rides LOW is a real joy to be ridding.  Smiley Smiley

I'm creeping up on 70 year total and 54 years of ridding , and hope your sholders still work for ya after getting hacked on a little .   Heck , not being able to ride would just not be right !

Hay , tell the Dr. to work ya up some extra slack in the new sholder to make reaching the twist grip a little easier for ya !   Wink

You WILL ride again , do not sell your bikes. Shoulder very painful and takes forever to rehab. Take your physical therapy seriously. Work hard. You may not make it back on a motocross tracks but you WILL RIDE AGAIN !
Ride a bicycle during rehab.

Whatever you ride, make sure it's comfortable. A bicycle, like a ten speed, puts weight on your arm you don't need.

hay Job

One of the guys in our lions club has had a new sholder joint put in.   So I ask him about your question.

His was two years ago and is long sinced healed .   He was under the impression that the joint is as good as the original.   Acordingly if the mussles and tendons are good , then there will be no problem doing anything you did before.

Hey all who have responded, thanks for the input. I got the bike out this week and put a few miles on it. I think once the physical therapy is over I should be ok. I have a bunch of limits to my range of motion, but I can still twist the throttle. Haha

Wanting to ride can be a helpful thing. Don't OverDo PT,but, slacking is not an option..
I'm in therapy, too. Seeing real progress. Hope you are too.

Ya Kneaux,, if you need a small, light bike, get one. And dust, shine and keep your Savage ready for the day you can handle it
Safely.

Thank You! I've been having trouble with keeping up my desire to work hard in my PT.
Now, I have inspiration!

I simply MUST attain the physical ability to put you on the ground and make you Tap Out!

Ohh,,how big of a dude are you, how old are you, and do you expect to regain full function?

My typing is better,, Duude,, that was nasty!

I Might test positive the day before the match.

Well it's been 5 months since the shoulder reverse replacement and I am back in the saddle. Took a 170 mile roundtrip to Dolores, Colorado for breakfast last week and it was great. I really missed the twisty roads up there. I hope everyone has a great summer. Stay safe.
