LED flasher?
01/14/22 at 20:28:04

I would like to swap my turn signals to LEDs, so I will need to swap out the stock flasher. Where do I find the stock flasher, and what type of LED flasher do I need?

On my Yamaha I replaced the stock flashed (5 wire) with a 2 wire LED flasher from customled, and it works great.

The Technical Section of this forum is loaded with this type of information.

The flasher is under the fuel tank, on the right side of the frame backbone, opposite the coil, ,held in place by a rubber jacket.....2 wires.

There is a Table of Contents with links to help you search.

Thank you. It says I don't have to remove the tank, which is nice, I will order the flasher and and attempt it.

One more question, I read that on some bikes even with the LED flasher the turn signals may start flashing on both sides due to low resistance, they conduct through the indicator bulb on the gauge cluster. It didn't happen when I converted my Yamaha, hoping it wont happen on the S40.

Installed it today, along with some Sylvania Zevo 1157 LED front turn signal bulbs. Love the instant on/off.

 What did you install?

I understand you used the following bulbs as a direct swap, but what else?

No, I did not use these bulbs, I used these.

https://www.sylvania-automotive.com/sylvania-1157-white-zevo-led-mini-2-pack/...

They are white, and require the orange lense. They also have an amber version, which can be used with clear lenses. They are not really any brighter than stock halogen bulbs, but they retain the correct beam pattern that is close to stock. They also have high contrast between "running light" function and "blinker" function. There are too many LED bulbs on the market that do not have the proper contrast between low power and high power modes.

I also replaced the stock flasher module with a digital flasher module to get rid of "hyperflash". This is the one I used, it was a direct swap, no splicing/soldering required.
