Exhaust wrap

happy new year everybody,
Just trying to get everybody’s opinion on header wrap.. mines been wrapped since I got the bike actually I redid it. But I’m not so sure about keeping all that heat. I think I had originally wrapped it because the pipe was really rusty. But this morning I figured I would start a new year off by playing with my motorcycle. Took a wire wheel on my drill ,pipes not to bad

Wrapping a header is a bit of a custom fad these days.  It is not good for the metal as the heat is held in the metal, and the heat cycles will lead to failure - header companies won't warranty their product if you wrap it.

The fabric also holds moisture and promotes rusting.

The Savage header is a double pipe - the outside pipe does not get as hot as a single wall pipe would......so maybe it won't suffer a premature failure as a result of the heat.

I just didn’t know if it was a horsepower gain or if that was all BS. Yeah when I first got the bike I did it in black wrap well don’t get it wet..

On a big V8, header wrap can show a power improvement by lowering underhood temperatures. The engine breathes in cooler air and you will see some power improvement from that.

On the Savage (and pretty much all motorcycles) it is purely for cosmetics.
