Saddlebags recommendations for stock Savage.

I just bought a 2004 Savage, and would like some recommendations for fairly inexpensive bags, that fit these bikes well, and offer ample capacity. Thanks

The question is how many cases can I haul. I have a trunk on my other bike, and while a little scooter like it's handy.  I would like to have something as big as possible without looking to ridiculous on a small bike. I have noticed that the hard bags are cheap, but I don't see how one could mount them close to the bike because of the shocks. I think I know the route I will take. eBay had some good deals on leather bags made in India, so I will probably do that.

Willie & Max makes reasonably priced bags that are good quality. I put them on my bike.

Okay,, you don't Really know exactly what you need. The Willie and Max bags are not pricey and are of reasonable quality. You can get the mounts, and I cut mine and got inserts from Hobby Lobby and laced them together with paracord, so the rectifier could stay.
You can try them out. If you need bigger, well,, run them till you get sick of them and go with something else.

I thank you all for the input.  I just went ahead, and ordered a pair of those smallish leather bags from India through eBay. I will probably end up getting a tail bag, but I'm in no big hurry, because I usually don't start riding till about March.

I have a set of stock bags, but I cut off the "over the seat" strap, and just zip tied them to the saddle bag supports, using four heavy duty zip ties on each bag. The stock bags are small, but they are soft, so they stretch out and can fit quite a bit of stuff.

I also bought a bicycle trunk from amazon, and mounted it with a custom made 1/8" thick stainless angle drilled and tapped into the backrest frame.

May not be the best looking, but very practical and carries a lot of stuff!

Viking bags make good bags too, a bit pricy.

Haha, I never looked at it this way. I'll take a photo of how its mounted, it is nice and solid. I could mount it lower, but I was worried about blocking the brake light as it extends back quite a bit.

I personally like a trunk, and have a small one on my little Virago, along with small bags, and it's practical. I almost never open the saddlebags, and just keep gloves, tools, and first aid supplies in them. I use the trunk for almost everything else.

Same here, I have trunks on both of my motorcycles, they are super practical. I know they don't look precisely sporty, but I couldn't care less.

I like saddle bags and a luggage rack. A luggage rack allows you to carry long things like tents, collapsible chairs. For large items that will not fit in the saddle bags, I keep a folded duffle bag bungee corded to the rack.

Care to explain how you zip tied them to the rails?  You've got me wanting to do that with mine;  I haven't been able to figure out a really good way to make them stay still with the top strap intact.  Did you cut holes in the backs for the zip ties?
