Nobody really make a kit for the Savage.....it is out of production and when it was being built there just weren't enough of them to get the aftermarket folks excited about building stuff.

The 2004 and later bikes had a passing switch that flashes the high beam headlight.  If you have that bike you can open up the wiring harness for the left side handlebar electrical control and separate the two yellow wires where they are joined, and reroute the passing switch to whatever headlights you want to be using.  I did this on my bike and used one of these flashing strobes in yellow/white.

You can either use a momentary switch that would operate the light while the button is pushed - or a ON/OFF switch that could be used if you wanted to use the lights as "Emergency Flashers" as well.  There are a lot of options for switches.....just do a Google Search.

Yep, I have the momentary switch, but I wanted to add an extra set of light for greater visibility.

I'll figure something custom out. Smiley

We have the same headlight mounting as an early intruder, so look for those.

Plus, replace the bulbs with LED's or you'll overtax the charging system.

Good to know, thank you. I already replaced the headlight with Denali M5.

Maybe I don't understand what you mean by "Passing Lights".

Are you looking for more light while riding - or to signal folks that you are a passing?

I would think the Denali light would put out plenty of light for normal riding.

I'm not sure why they are called passing lights, they are basically a set of secondary light like fog lights on cars - very popular on bigger cruisers. They provide more light, and make you more visible to other road users. Many big cruisers come with these passing lights from the factory, or they are being sold as OEM and aftermarket accessory.

I will do something custom next week and post pictures when finished. I was just trying to see if there is an OEM or aftermarket kit made specifically for our bikes.

I think we have called them driving or aux lights in the past.

Yep, these terms are also often used. Usually factory kits are called passing or driving lights, whereas aftermarket kits are often called auxiliary. Plenty of auxiliary kits from companies like Denali, but they don't match up well to cruiser styling. I'll do something with chrome bowls similar to the headlight, this way it look true to the overall design of the S40.

Most Savage owners don't install these......as we only have about 100 watts of power from the charging system and it doesn't take too many extras before you are out of power.  We have had members who make lots of short trips and end up running the battery down as the distance they ride is not sufficient to recharge the energy they use when starting the bike.

MMRanch found a really good solution.  He found a set of LED bulbs that are white on the running light, and yellow on the turn signal.  He installed these in the front turn signals with a clear lens.  They work really well and are low wattage....the white lights are likely not going to light up the road much - but they do make the bike far more visible to traffic.

Maybe we can get MM to give us a link to the LED's he bought.

Yep, these are called "switchback" bulbs, but you need to get a digital flasher to replace the factory flasher to avoid "hyperflash" when turn signals are on.

Just finished installing these babies. They are Show Chrome 3-1/2" LED lights, and IMO they really compliment the look of the bike with the upgraded LED headlight. Since they are only 3-1/2", they are smaller than most standard 4-1/2" passing lights, and they don't look out of place on the small bike. They also provide a significant amount of extra light. Love them!

Yep, need to find a dark road - difficult here in NYC.
