Stand options

Hi all,
It's just about time for me to put away the savage for the season. Does anyone have any recommendations for a set of stands, or, if stock hardware allows it, a center stand?

If you just want it sitting up straight you can hoist it and set it on a cinder block. You will want some construction wedges, like the carpenter uses for installing a door frame.
A come-along hanging from a rafter, some rope you can actually trust, and BobsYerUncle.

Now, I don't know where to buy rope that isn't crap. Para cord is supposed to be 500 pound working strength, I think..  I couldn't make myself hoist it without quadrupling the lines.. I know that is crazy overkill, but dropping a bike, maybe getting hurt,, not okay with that.

Last time I tried to buy rope at the feed store it Looked just like the stuff I've had for years. But it was lighter,, felt softer ,,so I looked closer. It's just a woven nylon sleeve with polyester strips inside.. It's not safe for lifting at all.

Trying to keep the tires off the concrete to avoid flatspots, as I'm often gone for weeks at a time, so rotating the tires isnt always an option. Space in my garage is at a premium though, so I was hoping for a center stand to avoid extra length and width from spool/swingarm stands.

pump your tires to 35psi, no problems all winter.  Or, buy a front tire stand from harbor freight, bolt it to a 2x10, lower the side stand onto a wood block, upright all winter !
Cheers!  Cool

Modern tires don't flat spot over a few winter months - pump them up and don't worry about them.  You can rotate the tires occasionally if you remember.

However - if you want the weight off them just get some scrap lumber and make a support - or run a few tie downs to the rafters and lift the bike.

Our winters are 5 months long in Kentucky and there are likely only a few days in November we can sneak in a ride.......then we will be done riding until April when the spring rains wash the salt off the roads.

How long is the winter in Alberta?

Here is the thread in the Technical Section.

I have a brother that lives in Calgary.  How long are the winters in Alberta? It has the potential to snow any day of the year, depending on the jet stream.  It also gets in the 80's in summer.  Flip a coin!  He told me one winter it hit -60 deg F.   Shocked

This is the homemade lift I use for maintenance, but it would work for storage as well.
