2000 stock ls650 no start
10/13/21 at 10:12:00
I got this bike that sat up for who knows how long. New battery, lights work, neutral indicator works, but even in neutral, kickstand up and clutch lever pulled, when I hit start I don't get a click or dimmed lights or anything. Is there a good thread with pictures or anyone with a good place to start looking?

Is there a voltage drop when you engage the start button? If not, check for continuity at the starter solenoid when you engage the start button.

No click? then it's the safeties or the start button.
pull the clutch safety sensor wire (left control clutch switch connector)
check the voltage on one of the wires vs. ground when you push the start button.
one wire or the other should go to ~12v.
if it does, great, the start button works.
next easiest place to check is the relay.
there are 2 small wires, like the clutch safety, one wire or the other should go to ~12v.
if it does, great, all the BS between the relay and the start button works.

Try putting Kickstand down. There is a safety switch on it.

I accidentally bridged the yellow/black wire to the positive terminal on the relay for a second and the starter turned. Yellow black goes to decomp controller and positive terminal goes to main positive to battery.

well... the starter works and the relay works.
the problem is between the start button and the relay.

I disassembled the switches. The kill switch contacts were corroded. When I jumped the terminals, I can get it to turn over! I sanded the contact points and added a dab of grease. I also took a butane torch lighter to the faded red plastic button.
