Spins fine if I cross the solenoid
09/25/21 at 21:34:52
Ok, I recently bought a 2001 Savage. It's in good shape, but the prior owner said that the carb leaked and filled the crankcase with gas so they drained all the oil out of it. Clutch pulled in, kickstand up, kill switch on, key on, hit the start button and all I get is the click from the decomp. So I figured it was locked up. pulled the rh side of the engine off and put a socket on the crank and it spins freely, and has compression. finally found the solenoid and crossed it and it spins just fine. Waiting on gaskets and an oil filter to close it back up, but have no idea why I have no power from the start button to the solenoid. Any ideas? Also where are the fuses?

Power goes from the start button to the clutch safety.
So pull the connector and check that you get power to one of the wires when you push the button.
Then it goes to the side stand relay, I don't usually check that.
Then it goes to the decomp controller, I don't check it either.
Then it goes to the relay, pull the little wires up a bit and check there.
Black with a white stripe is ground.

Fuses accessible without pulling the seat,, kinda,,look up under the seat about where your right thigh goes, white plastic box,,
Seat off is so much easier
