gearbox and oil leak questions
08/28/21 at 22:13:11

Hi guys, I am loving my LS650, but a couple things are these known for any gearbox issues, cos my 4th and 5th gears appear to be the same ratio, also I have a bit of an oil leak from the speedo drive. Does anyone have some tips for these (I have clocked up over 5000km in the past 3 months)

Yes, there is not a lot of difference between 4th & 5th ratios.

Does your cable still have the little oil seal at the bottom?

The speedometer drive is supposed to have an oil seal at the end of the cable.....it drops off easily when the cable is removed from the engine.  According to Serowbot it can drop down into the cavity where the stater is.

Mine had a seal on the cable and it had a spare seal under the starter.

If you need taller gearing, the front pulley can be swapped for a slightly larger one from a Kawasaki bike.  Dave machines these to fit our bike and sells a kit.  The kit includes a machined pulley, new lock washer and the screws that need replacing with lower profile heads.  It's an easy upgrade.

Thanks mate, I don't really need taller gearing, top legal speed is only 110kph, does that easy enough! had just been asking cos 4th and 5th seem almost the same
