noisy front disc brakes
07/22/21 at 18:12:39
Hello All: I bought a 2017 with only 730 miles, so obviously it has sat around a lot. The front disc brakes are supper noisy. I don't know if the sitting around for so long has done something to the pads, they have plenty of life left in them they are just noisy. Does someone have a good remedy to get rid of the noise short of changing the pads, which might actually be the easiest. Thanks for any input

Put some never-seize on the pins.

They could have grit embedded in them, or they're super hard pads.
Organic pad material is better, quiet and long lasting.
you can inspect them while you're greasing the pins.

My experience is that the factory pads are prone to being noisy.
The EBC Organic pads work really well on the Savage.

When I bought my '08 bike in 2014, it only had 2700 miles. When I rode it home, same thing. Real bad brake squeal. First thing I did was put the EBC organic pads on, lightly sand the rotor with super fine grit paper and put disc brake pad grease on the back of the pads. Fixed it right up. Changing the pads is also a great intro to working on this bike if you're not familiar with wrenching on motorcycles. Great tutorial on this site.

I would make sure the front spacers are installed correctly.
