Lol on racing stripes.
I used Google and do see several older threads, mostly on the Premium debate, and a good amount on pure v. E10. FWIW, I'm considering Shell's Premium not for power, but for the additive package (corrosion, etc).
I don't really see anything on Top Tier fuels. I think these are a great idea and most major brands are TT. However, this standard is mainly to combat intake valve carbon from GDI engines. According to the AAA "independent" study, it does so marvelously. However, although the data is included in the study, the fact combustion chamber deposits actually increased isn't mentioned.
So, it seems to me LAC fuel, regardless of octane, is better for any EFI or carbed engine.
As for the price difference, I'll have to pay closer attention but it seems Premium and Pure and pretty close locally.
Finally, I'll pose the question of timing advance on our bikes as I didn't see that mentioned in the previous related threads. Do our bikes have knock sensors?
If not, octane rating truly is moot as the only real advantage WITH a sensor is the timing being advanced a few degrees with higher octane.
I guess that's ramble enough. I suppose I'll try a full tank (or two) of Pure and compare to Shell's Premium (which is the only one I'd consider using. Perhaps I'll even take them up on the challenge and run a borescope down the hole (before v. after).
