Any Sources for a Wide Whitewall?
06/16/21 at 19:56:42

I've seen one Savage with this (rear only) and thought it looked totally badass. It was converted to a bobber so I'm guessing it wasn't the stock size. I don't wanna worry about rub and plan to stay mostly stock. Any thoughts for sources?

It is hard to find tires that fit the Savage that have white walls.  Most white wall tires are made to fit Harley's that have a 16" diameter rear rim.  You can get some rear tires in a 150/80-15 tire - some members have run that size tire but I don't recommend it as it is too wide to fit on the narrow rim.....and it also can rub on the side rail bolt heads under the fender.

The Dunlop K555 tire comes in a 140/80-15.

The Shinko 777 is available in a 100/90-19 front.

There are also whitewall port-o-walls that can be added to any tire.  You may have to do some searching to find where you can buy a set of 15" and 19".

Be aware of this.  Even bobbing the bike the clearances will be tight enough to impact the tire under certain load conditions.

Great info and thanks tons. Any potential issues with mixing brands? I search around on the port-o-walls also.

I used to be a dyed in the wool believer in it being important to have the same brand and model of tire front and back - but not so much anymore.  It is rare the front and rear tire wear out at the same time - and sometimes I will put a new tire brand/model on one end sooner than I do the other end......and I have never noticed any ill effects of doing that.  I do mount similar tires though - so if you mounted a sport tire on one end and a cruiser tire on the other end....the results may be incompatible.

If you stick with cruiser tires on both ends - there likely won't be any noticeable quirks.  One end might get better mileage, one might be better in the wet, etc.

Since she's up and running now, and minus the petcock leak, I was about to pull the trigger on the Shino (front) and Dunlop (rear) when I realized they're both tubeless.

Do most stay with tubed tires? Is it possible to convert?

All modern tires are tubeless, and can be mounted on rims that allow tubeless tires.

However - they also work on rims that requires tubes and will work on your Savage.

Well pooh. The only tubed tires I could find in those sizes are the OEM IRC's at Motosport.com. I'll have to wait until Monday to see if I can cancel. I guess that makes sense I could simply use a tube with the others. Bah. If I can't cancel, I'll be on the OEM's until next round. Thanks tho.

IRC is the only tubed source and was OEM. I'll try to cancel Monday. Their customer service is closed weekends. Believe me, I prefer the wide white walls. :/
