Windshield Question
06/11/21 at 20:01:26

I see folks taking their windshield off the bikes.  Why would you take it down?  Looks?  Preference somehow?  So I took mine down today and i felt more wind hitting me (duh), even at 25mph...  so I'm guessing some folks like feeling the wind on them when they ride?  Why would you take yours down?

When the temperatures go over 80....and climb up into the 90's - more wind in your face is a good thing! Wink

For riding back roads at 60mph and less - my Cafe' bike is my choice and it does not have a windshield - I have a full face helmet and wear a jacket and gloves to get protection from the big and sometimes painful beetles! (I hate to think how much they would hurt when they would hit your skin).  At interstate speeds it sure is nice to have a windscreen - when traveling I take a bike with a windscreen.

I've never gotten used to full windshields. I feel unstable when getting hit by blasts from passing trucks and being buffeted by cross winds.

I usually putt around on side roads and try to stay off of high-speed highways. I have ditched a windshield and replaced it with a fly shield, which is a small deflector that leaves your head in the wind, but reduces the wind pressure on your chest, making it less tiring to "hang on". I no longer have my Savage, but the fly shield has been transferred to my Kaw Vulcan 800.

This pic shows the fly shield mounted just above the headlight.

Anyone still selling a full windshield or 'flyscreen' specifically for the savage?  Or are y'all just making custom brackets for some universal windscreens...
