Tater Pig......maybe good for camping!

I saw a video with Tennessee Earnie Ford and Minnie Pearl making Tater Pigs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEc1YGcuDIQ

Another video shows a fellow using Link Sausage.

This might be an easy way to make dinner while camping.  Wrap the tater in tin foil and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

I might surprise the wife and make dinner tonight! Wink

I did make dinner tonight......Tater Pigs!

It was incredibly easy - just poke a hole and shove in the sausage and wrap it in tin foil.  I used Purnell's Ground Sausage and a couple of really big potatoes.

The Good - I can't imagine anything that is easier to make (maybe hot dogs or a bowl of cereal).  The 1 hour cook time at 350 degrees cooked the sausage fine....the potato would have been better with another 15 or 20 minutes to get it a little softer.

The OK - The meal really ended up being a skinless sausage link with a baked potato.  When I cut open the potato the sausage rolled out in a perfectly shaped link.  The potato really didn't absorb any of the flavor from the sausage and it tasted just like a baked potato....the sausage tasted like a sausage!  The potato really needed to be served with all the normal baked potato accessories......butter, sour cream, chives, cheese - whatever you prefer.

Summary - The meal was a success and it definitely is worth doing and will be a nice simple meal when we go camping.  It might take a little while to figure out how to cook them on a fire pit grate.......it won't be hard to figure out in a propane grill.

haha Right?!

I ran heavy equipment for a few years and we had a few guys who would cook lunch on their machines.

I remember reading about a fellow who would cook his dinner on the top of the engine in his car.

I have seen several guys on an asphalt paver cook their lunch on the heated screed.
