Speedo upgrade
03/08/21 at 21:15:46

I wanted to show what I think will work for installing a new gauge in the tank.

The plastic mounts of the mounting ring need to be trimmed a bit and then the retainer ring on the speedo needs to be cut down some.  Its pretty secure and ought to fit in the tank.  Problem is I dont have a stock tank to try it on.

This part needs to be whittled down with a Dremel or another tool.

Looks better than oem.

My concern as a new rider is that I don’t like taking my eyes off the road for a split second to look way far down at the speedometer, feels unsettling and worrying.

Yeah good point.  But thats the way the bike is designed, so you gotta do what you gotta do.

I was in the process of doing that too and then we decided to weld up the speedo hole in the tank for a smoother/faster look and a tad more fuel storage , maybe a cup or two of more fuel , every little bit helps ! Wound up with the new gps speedo on the bars where it’s easier to see at speed when your all tucked in. Not to mention I have no wiring to piss me off hooked to the tank while I’m trying to remove it , just one lonely fuel hose and tank comes right off !

I like the look. Is it more illuminated than stock? Stock is hard to see and dim.

I'm thinking about replacing my tank in the next year or two. Has anyone looked into installing this or something like it in a more traditional location in front of risers?

Ive used the trailtech on dirtbikes before.  I think you still have to wire up a proximity sensor on the rim and calibrate it.

Ill be selling these ones soon if you arent so concerned about the classic gauge look.

Its gps, has a tach and you can program it for any speedand perhaps rpm range. Pretty dang sweet.

When my wife is riding on the back......I never need to look as the speedometer.  She lets me know when I am going too fast!

MMRanch has got one just like mine! Roll Eyes
