Hey guys what model Shinko tire are you guys running ?
They have a decent selection of tires and sizes. My Ryca tracker has 18” hoops front & rear , think it was the Shinko 777 had front & rear in 18”.

I like the 230 Tourmaster as it has a good looking tread pattern and a nice round tread cross section and it corners smoothly......100/90-19 front and 130/90-15 rear.

Others use the 712 and some go to the 140/90-15 rear for taller gearing.

But.....those are cruiser tires and don't likely come in the size you need for an 18" rim.

I have found that for my bike with 18" rims I am pretty much limited to the Pirelli Sport Demon, the Bridgestone Battlax BT45, Michelin Pilot Active (incredibly stiff and hard to mount)......and the Avon AM26 Roadrider (new set in the garage not mounted yet).

I've run the 712's after seeing them on Springman's bike.  They are nice handling and last +-10K miles .  I have 712's front and rear on two of my bikes.

My Kawasaki W has 18 inch rim on the back and I'm running the Dunlop K70  rear .   It's just as good now as it was in the 1970's ... maybe a little better even - next time I'll use it for the front too !  Wink

With the K70 I drove across a cow pasture to the top of a REALLY BIG HILL that I never would have done with the 712's , but it still performs like a street tire on black top.   Give it a look see !  Wink

Yeah I looked at all those and the Shinko tires have good reviews. K70s are great tires just not what I’m lookin for. So I’m gonna try a set of Shinko 777s , 120/90-18 front , 140/70-18 rear. 2 tires , 2 tubes , 2 rim strips =  $237 to my front door. Get rid of those heavy dual purpose tires , maybe loose a few lbs too ! At least 1 lb of tire weights.

Like MM says, I like the 712's. I tried the 230's also but really did not notice any difference over the 712 so I am back on the 712's on the S40. The Honda Shadow has the 777's I think and they handle well and at 4500 miles are showing little wear.

I think the 777 looks like a road racing slick with some random rain grooves in them. As soon as my hand heals I’ll get busy. What a great way to motivate myself to finish the tracker , installing new shoes will make me want to finish & ride it. Squeak out some speed runs with the new GPS speedo and maybe a few test & tune sessions for that last couple of mph.
Even in its current state of disarray up on the lift she still looks pretty wicked. Can’t wait to raise hell round town with her. This time I’ll do a few photos then she will become a daily rider. Ruttly’s Ryca gone mad will ride again !

Been reading reviews on the 777 and couldn’t find a bad review , but one guy with a heavy touring bike complained only getting 6k before needing replaced but he also said he will buy them again due to the smooth quiet ride and great grip and unaffected by rain grooves and tar snakes. Harley guys even give it a great review. And so many sizes available. Hope they are as good as everyone says they are.

Ruttly, I remembered to take a look and yes I have the 777 on the rear on my Honda Shadow Spirit 1100. The tire is right at 5k miles and looks about half way worn so I am guessing it will be good for 8-10k miles. It does seem to wear a bit faster than 712 on the Savage but the Honda is also about 200lbs heavier and about 28hp more and yes I tend to like hard acceleration. The ride on every Shinko tire I have had has been very good.

It is tough getting old. I actually rechecked my tires while wearing reading glasses. I do not have the 777 tire on the rear. It is the sr734 and measuring with a quarter I have at least 4/32's of tread left at 5k miles.

Well the Shinko 777s showed up and I’m sending them back , just too big/wide. Now I’m lookin at the Continental Conti tire. Kinda similar tire just more $$$ or maybe a set of Dunlop K81s. Really wanted to try those 777 , just simply to wide.
