Eegore, I don't use this part of the forum as I don't know much about US politics, however, if you are being troubled by pop up ads, I would heed oldfellers advice and install adblock plus. I did this some years ago and don't see any popup ads or ads for that matter. I don't see ads from NZ where I live, or from the rest of the worl. If a site asks me to disable my ad blocker, I leave the site.
