You’re confusing hatred with selfishness. The opposite of love is not hate;  the opposite of love is selfishness, extreme apathy.

It’s OK to hate evil. It’s OK to hate an unrepentant human trafficker for example. Civilized society depends upon group hatred of acts that destroy the cohesiveness of that society.

That does not mean the response to that hatred is disproportional or cruel. This is where thoughts like yours come from. You focus on a few high profile, out of proportional responses and extrapolate that across the general population. That’s simply not true. 1 billion responses of hatred every day that result in a positive response is what keeps us moving forward. A neighborhood that hates the drug dealers that have moved in, who ban together to force them out to protect the children, is a good thing.
