just wondered why, if the tightener is a big problem, why is it not mentioned in the maintenance section of the owner's manual? just wondering

The KLR650 had a doohickey problem. The DR650 had a NSU problem.
The Savage has a cam chain tensioner problem. All issues that can cause severe engine damage.
Motorcycle manufactures won't fix these problems.
They won't admit there is a problem.
If you contact them about the problem, they will say your the only person that ever complained about it.
