On line stores recommending 140/90-15 rear tire
10/20/20 at 19:43:16

When I put an LS650 into the tire calculator on the Metzeler web sight, they recommend a 140/90-15 rear tire.
Has anyone tried this tire size?

I ran one of the older version the 880 and liked it. It is pricey, but will run a long time. If you ride at least 5k a year you should wear it out before it gets too old. But if you only ride 2k or so a year it will get really old before you wear it out.
Now it is a touring tire made for long distance, if you like to drag your pegs all the time you might want to go with a sporty ( softer, stickyer ) tire.
The 140/90 15 should fit fine on your bike, a lot of us run that size from a bunch of brands.

A better choice would be 130/90-15 Kenda Challenger. The OD of the 130 closely matches the OD of the stock tire, preserving acceleration and is at least 3-4 lbs lighter. The 140/90 is a heavy tire. The 130 corners great!  (IMO!)
Cheers!  Cool

I've been running the 140/90 Metzler 880 on my bike for years (yes I have worn a few out) without any problems. A plus is that it makes the speedometer read closer to actual speed instead of 10% faster than actual with the OEM tire.

How many miles have you been getting out of the 880's?

We put an ME880 150/80-15 on at 12k kms, and it's at 42k kms now and still plenty of tread. The gf likes it, she can get around corners faster than I dare.

I used the 140/80-15 Kenda for a number of years until switching to a Metzler 880 on a 16” rear wheel, and use the 130/90-16 mag wheel since.  It has more than enough meat on it, and actually looks exactly like a 140/80 from the rear...can’t tell them apart.
I buy 1-2 year old tires on eBay for half the cost of a new one.

I run the K671 130/90/15.  Good looking tire imho (I wanted close to an enduro look) and you can't tell a size difference looking at it.  But there's more room under the rear fender, no risk rubbing bolts with a passenger...

I’m running a Shinko 140/90-15 70H- it required removal of my luggage rails, and replacement of side-facing bolts with lower profile cross-point heads.

I change my 20 years old tires at first and got my a 150/80 Bridgestone on the rear wheel.

And a 100/90 in the front!

https://bikeswiki.com/Suzuki_LS650_Savage_(Boulevard_S40)

The 150/80 fits and a lot of space over!

Both Bridgestone!
