Air Box removal with tool?
07/27/20 at 14:58:43

Everywhere I have read, people say pulling the air box  is a pain .. much headache and cursing

I have to clean the carb anyway, so after I pull the carb, I'm thinking of removing the the box then and putting a filter in place of the box.

Thoughts about Cutting it  out carefully small piece at a time with one of those harbor freight  Oscillating Multi-Tool.

I plan to never use it again, and it seems it would have no resale value.

?

It really is not that difficult once the carb is out, you will have to remove the battery box also.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT cut the box apart.
My guess is someone here is doing a full restoration and would like that part, plus, you can make a new friend  Cheesy

Removing the airbox in no way can be described as difficult. I also read what you read and I've had it out a few times and it is not difficult at all to take off.

However if you're not going to bob her, or remove the entire airflow path, then you may want to give it some more thought because you might find yourself in the market for your own airbox. Apparently the engine needs the path to run properly, as I understand it, others may wish to weigh in on this.

Airbox looks fine to me and it will probably run better with it.

FFIW, which admittedly is not a lot... I reckon the deep yellow tank, black body and tan seat, looks excellent, especially with the original tank logo. You don't see that colour used a lot.

Nothing wrong with yellow or the blacked out side covers, battery box, and fenders.  I'm not a big bobber guy, but I like the weight in the middle on yours.  Especially with the stock tank.  If you were doing a peanut tank or something small, then maybe clean it up.

My obsession with singles started with a 250 Ducati similar to that photo.
Note: there is a hidden nut under the airbox on the left side. Removing this nut eases removal of the airbox.
Carb removal is easier with a cone filter.
Cheers!  Cool
