Well you’re right about one thing and that’s for sure, the law of unintended consequences is going to come into play. Who knows what societal changes will become permanent. I do feel it’s possible more opportunities to work from home will come about. But I also guarantee employers will cut pay.

I’ve work from home for the better part of the last 25 years. It’s not as easy as it sounds. It requires a certain level of self-discipline. And there are certain jobs that may seem on the surface are suitable for doing outside the office but after a while you realize you need that constant communication that an office environment gives.

I’m not sure how this is all going to shake out but as you said there’s definitely going to be permanent changes.

But I’m also convinced this might be the very last time we face this. I’m fairly certain before long, the ability to identify a virus and immediately isolate the area is going to happen quickly. I also think there’s gonna be a big push on immunity health.

The work from home thing is already on in some fields, I've done most of my work form home for the last 20 yrs. Its got to the point on occasion where they would suggest you work from home and that would happen within the first week. This corona Virus and related quarantine has got that trend made more official and more almost company wide - any one that can work from home should, and when they see the world doesn't end, it will become so permanently. But interestingly I don't see a pay cut neccesarily, my current and previous employers have office space shortages and with the high real estate costs the idea has become a $$ saver. Also there may be a shift away from more $$$ cities like NYC and CA.

Atleast in IT, The trend was in place even 10 yrs ago, of late it was reversing to where they were trying to get more people to an office atleast 3 days a week. But this may result in that reversal pretty much slowing to a crawl. However when they started the trend of working from home they didn't cut pay. However I may be already where the lower costs were reflected in the pay. I can see how they can say - work form home and not pay NYC wages by assigning them to Charlotte or something and you lose the higher pay you may have got from an on site requirement in NYC. So I don't know I left CA before remote was even possible.
