I have measured the clutch push rod
it sticks up 12.5 mm out of the basket
is this within tolerance

This is not really a requirement, but what I've found that works.
Too long and when you bolt down your clutch cover and it will clamp down on the throw out rod and you got permanent slipping.
12 to 12.5 works for me and every savage that I've worked on.
If you bolt down the cover and there's no free play on the lever, you had better look at again and maybe shorten it.

Not changing the oil filter may have been a mistake, the difference in an oil change without the filter (1.9 Qts) and with filter (2.5 Qts) , leaves over 25% of the Moly still in the motor. that may not include the oil bath the cam sets in (remember I advised tipping the bike over in both direction so that oil would drain from the valve spring area back to the bottom end) or any oil still trapped in the oil passages.

I have just spoken to lucas oils they do not make a semi synthetic 10w40 with moly, they only make fully synthetic oil with moly.So the stuff I used was semi synthetic therefore cannot have moly in it
therefore it can not be the oil that is making my clutch slip and I have wasted $100 dollars in oil and gaskets and my clutch is no better

Savage engines have been seen with 100,000+ miles, using much less expensive oils. We know about it. Bring in a different critter and have a slip, we immediately distrust the oil.
Your research on your oil would have been better done earlier.

Plain and simple,
Shell Rotella T4
right out of the bottle. Trust us.
Most use 15w 40
, but if you are riding in freezing weather you can use the 5w, your choice.
Old theory was to add ZDDP, but we have recently determined the current formulation is sufficient so don't be confused by old posts recommending added ZDDP.

Also, I have a 95 motor that is parting out from a cam chain tensioner failure. If you need a clutch pack/basket and want to see the condition of mine I can send images. PM me.

You can lead a horse to water.............
It Does have MOLY! You didn't Clean the Clutch plates again or Change the filter, and you expect what? a miracle! It's sad to think that when taking to Lucas that either you didn't tell him you had used the troy lee version or that he doesn't know what's in the products he sells. I have better things to do than lie to you ,like trying to help someone who will listen.
in any event stick a fork in me I done!
