Hello All,
Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is the difference between the California Fuel Tanks and a Non Conforming California Fuel Tank? What makes it different?
Thanks

Most tanks vent air through the gas cap,..
Cal models have a tube that vents to a charcoal canister, the caps are air tight like a modern car.

The Cal caps have an inlet vent, and exhaust thru the charcoal can which is in turn vented to the carb.
49 state caps have an inlet and an outlet.

So is the Charcoal canister needed or can it be bypassed? I bought a 49 state tank to replace mine and would like to be able to bypass it and use this tank if possible.

Sorry, can the charcoal can be bypassed? I would like to bypass and buy a new cap instead of sourcing a new CA tank.

the tabs in the caps are different, but you could swap the bottoms and be good.
but I'd just run the vent hose to the back and leave it open.
I haven't seen much difference in capping the port, but that's what I do.
I wouldn't connect the hose to port w/out the carbon can as there's a possibility of a backfire lighting the tank.
