Sweet Barn Find (pics updated)

Well, sort of...

The bike is already mine, and it was in my barn, and I’ve been cleaning out the barn for repairs and I discovered my beautiful old bike which has rekindled my love for the savage. So technically, yes, this is a barn find.

The last time I posted I was building a garage in front of my house and had recently completed that project. That was 2014 and that was the last time I rode my motorcycle. Since then I got married, got into amateur bicycle racing, moved into a 90 year old craftsman, completed a full renovation, built yet another custom garage, had a son with my wife, and changed jobs. Needless to say I’ve been busy and unfortunately time for the savage has been non existent. I’m hoping to change that.

I moved the bike from the barn into my main garage and am excited to get her purring again. The barn was built in the early 1900s and was moved to my property in the 30s. When they moved it they made it two stories and put it on top of a pole barn. It needs new subfloors on the second floor, new electrical, and a couple new poles. I’m removing everything I’ve been storing in there to do the repairs so my garage is a little cluttered.

I’m looking forward to getting more active here and spending some time in the saddle. Right off the bat I have noticed some things the bike will need outside of a very comprehensive detail. First, the carb needs to be cleaned and the battery charged, the oil and filter need to be changed. The brake fluid needs to be changed and new pads installed (the front caliper was seized). Then the exhaust wrap needs to come off to see how bad the header rust is. Last is to repair the seat and polish all the aluminum back to a nice mirror finish. Any thing else I need to consider after letting her sit for 6 years?

Thanks for reading

The garage is a bit of a mess as we prepare for the barn repairs.

I'd consider some fogging oil for the piston before  trying to start the bike .

Good idea. I had not thought about piston.

Also, the battery aint taking a charge after a couple days on trickle so looks like ill need a new one of those.

Quick update. Decided to make a little design change from the original rebuild. Can anyone spot the difference?

I'm not sure about ALL the rules, but ok am not real sure it counts as a Find if the Finder put it there... kinda like
Discovering a Buried Treasure, that the
Discoverer had buried....
I'm just not sure about how it works..
Unless you have Alzheimer's, then it's actually a Find,

Cool to see you resurrecting your bike! What are your plans beyond getting it running again? I like it, looking forward to reading the original thread.

plan is to get it all polished back up. I need to make some changes to the taillight setup as the license plate keeps snagging on the tire. Also, gunna convert the seat to a one piece design and recover in a brown leather. maybe more, we shall see.
