If there was a closer dealer (closest to me is 2.5 hrs) I might be tempted to purchase a new Royal Enfield INT650 on looks alone. They have an MSRP of about $5800.

I know, I know . . . there are many decent 650s (singles, twins and up) that can be had for that money.

I also know that REs aren't the most reliable and well-finished bikes on the planet either.

Still . . . you don't see one of these every day . . .

A bud bought one this fall. I did a small amount of work on it. I've worked on the singles before. The singles were the worst pieces of garbage I've ever laid wrenches on in 40+ years of working on bikes. The 650 seemed to be from a different (much better) planet. Other than having one allen head bolt strip for no reason, the bike seems very nice.
I'm still not on board with being the first pancake of the day. I'd wait a year or two before buying one. But, so far the one I've seen/worked on is a helluva bike for the money. It's not a $12K bike for $6K, it's a nice $6K bike.
It's my understanding that RE built a new factory to produce the 650s.
I hope they burn down the place that builds the singles.

And I agree. Buying a first-year model has its risks no matter what type and make of vehicle it is

The dealership is too far away. I doubt that I'll ever buy one but they sure are purty . . . Cool

There are three things about the twins I don't really like and they are not likely to fix them :

1. Those darn SPOKE WHEELS , I don't ever want to deal with another inter tube if I don't have to. Angry

I can see having spokes on a dirt bike.

2. That CHAIN DRIVE , I know some other bikes still have chains ... But ... Why would ya when a Belt is so much better ? I can see having a chain on a dirt bike.

3. Our beloved LS650 has 4 valves per/cylinder and its not really a big deal because they hold their adjustment for 20,000 miles once they get broke-in . Still , two per cylinder works just fine off the race track and is only half the noise and half the hassle to adjust .

Point being : anybody looking for performance is not going to be at the RE Shop / but those looking for a easy machine will be.
The idea that a RE is going to compete with a Suzuki GSX-R600 on any level beside $$$$ is just CRAZY.
So Yea ,I can see 4 valves/cylinder on a performance bike but not a commuter bike .

But , I think they are pretty machines and I wish them well .

I would have bought a new 790 or 860 Triumph long ago but they just wouldn't turn loose of the chain final drive thing.
So I was in hope of RE doing better ,,, and they might fix two of the three bad things they have going on ???
I hope they do !

The only things keeping me from buying a new one is a belt drive and tubeless wheels. I hope its got a REAL Interstate 6th gear ? Wink

Couple things, MM,
I hate tubes more than the average slob. That's why I did the Outex tubeless conversion on my Thruxton. And a few customer bikes. $120 for parts, some time, but no big deal. Had no problems at all.
As far as chains, I hate them too. But my '17 Thruxton went over 4,000 miles before needing it's first chain adjustment. Chains are WAY better than the bad old days.
The RE uses screw adjusters for the valves. Pretty easy to get to. No reason to worry about it.
For a cheap, simple bike, it has promise.

I still like the looks of Mag wheels even-though most of my bikes have been spoke . I put mag wheels on my LS650 .
