Hello All! I wanted to post my addition of a Ryca Tach to my build. I’d like to give credit to IslandRoad for his post. Thank you! Your pics and writeup were super helpful. Also credit to Todd James and T140V from whom his post was based. The reason I’m posting is, the brackets shown wouldn’t work on my stock setup. Anyway, mine is not nearly as good looking as theirs but, it works. I was trying to do the cheapest setup I could with supplies from Home Depot.
A few lessons learned: -I would’ve liked a wider aluminum plate but 2” was the only affordable option. My local store had wider angle bracket (I think 2 1/4” but it only came in 8’ lengths for $51!) -I used some rubber grommet washers on the gauge bolts to limit vibration and cut a rubber grommet in half to use on the U-bolts on the handlebars. —I bent the 2” aluminum to a 90° angle but when I mounted it, it rode too close to the triple-tree nut and the gauge didnt clear the U-bolts and nuts. I bent it slightly greater than 90° and angled the whole assembly up on the handlebars to give space. -Fabrication on the bracket could have all been done with a drill and a dremel (with various fittings) but I also used a small angle grinder to speed up the big cuts.
A wider aluminum plate would help make the whole assembly not look like it was redneck engineered. But, I did what I could with what I had. I hope this helps anyone looking to add a tach to the stock setup. I really wanted a tachometer so I can track numbers when I start upgrading the motor for HP. Thanks again to everyone who contributes to this forum! You all are awesome!
