You Support the Power to Murder?

A representative of President Trump has argued on his behalf that Trump is not subject to laws while in office.   According to Trump's legal strategy, he could invite Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter to the White House, beat them to death with a golf club, and be free from investigation, prosecution, and incarceration.   Ya, they've argued such a murder couldn't even be investigated.

This is the world Trump and his supports have delivered.   It's absurd, and monstrous.

Well it's not legally set in stone anywhere.

There is nothing in the Constitution that outlines that a President can be prosecuted for crimes, instead focusing on impeachment procedures.

The Supreme Court has never made a ruling.

So technically "Trump is not subject to laws while in office" is accurate from a certain point of view.  Where is the legal structure that outlines how a President can be investigated and prosecuted for murder?  In I believe 1973 or 74 the Justice Department initiated a policy that the current POTUS can not be indicted.

So if it comes down to what has been put into practice, then the Justice Department policy is the only available precedent.  Would it actually protect a sitting POTUS from murder charges?  I doubt it.

One of the advantages to our legal system is the ability to Amend law, and the Constitution.  I'm sure if Trump or any President killed people willingly in the Whitehouse there would be changes in law, and eventually a Supreme Court decision.

But as for today, none of that exists.

Council elaborated that the President could also not be stopped from murdering people.   So, Trump could walk into the House chamber of Congress with that same hypothetical golf club, and, presuming he had the strength, begin beating representatives to death -and officers of the law would be powerless to stop him.    Same for child molestation on live TV- or any such obscenity.   Or undermine government.   Or solicit foreign powers to interfere in our elections.

This is the Republican argument: see no evil, let evil run free.

This is complete bullshit.   Laws need not expressly apply to anyone to be enforceable.   This notion that the President is above the law has no basis in statute- it ain't in the Constitution, and the lawmakers of the United States have not passed any such legislation.   Legal council for a President is not a lawmaker- be they his personal attorney, or the Attorney General of the United States.  The Office of Legal Council does not make law- and a twisted interpretation drafted to protect the crook President Nixon and his cronies is not a mandate.

Correct. And Presidents enjoy a level of protection, very limited, unlike eveyone else. However, no one believes a President could commit murder and claim protection of the office. To take one lawyer's Hail Mary claim and assign it to one entire party is like taking one Congressman's belief that too many US soldiers on one end of Cuba would cause the island to capsize and assign that ignorance to their entire party.

Of course, it ain't just this one lawyer speaking for Trump, though- the President nominated an Attorney General and appointed a Supreme Court Justice that both wrote monographs supporting the notion the President is beyond the reach of justice, and there remains a solid block of GOP co-conspirators that obstruct attempts to hold Trump to account for his crimes.

This "Hail Mary" is a last ditch attempt to obstruct justice.    Innocent people  don't go to the extraordinary lengths the President and his party have to hide their actions from the public and Congress.

According to the Special Council Report, when Trump learned of the appointment, people in the room quote Trump as saying "I'm phucked"; it's the mission of folks like Mark here- who explicitly stated he wanted a civil war in which only one winner remained -to assure the rest of us get phucked along the way.

Exactly who, are you trying to convince with that lie ?

"SB 54, De León. Law enforcement: sharing data.
Existing law provides that when there is reason to believe that a person arrested for a violation of specified controlled substance provisions may not be a citizen of the United States, the arresting agency shall notify the appropriate agency of the United States having charge of deportation matters.
This bill would repeal those provisions.
Existing law provides that whenever an individual who is a victim of or witness to a hate crime, or who otherwise can give evidence in a hate crime investigation, is not charged with or convicted of committing any crime under state law, a peace officer may not detain the individual exclusively for any actual or suspected immigration violation or report or turn the individual over to federal immigration authorities.

This is from the Horses Azz Mouth.
