Now I just need to remember how they all go together. Can't believe there is no direct oiling for the rocker arms (unless I'm missing something).

Every gram counts!!  Amen is going to have that thing down to 200 lbs if he keeps this up.

I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.  I can't wait for Ruttly to post a picture of his bike(s) either.  Wink

Actually, this one wasn't about weight. My spiritual inspiration for this build were the Italian GP singles of the late 50's-early 60's. According to Kevin Cameron, the high water mark was the 1963 Moto Morini 250. A 250, two valve single that came within two points of championship winner Jim Redman on a 4 valve 250cc 6 cylinder.
The bike was around 250 lbs and around 37 HP.
I'll get close. Maybe 280 lbs.
Those guys didn't have a fraction of the R+D money and facilities that Honda had. All they had was crazy determinism and skilled labor.
Oftentimes every little part was lightened as much as possible, and polished.
Easiest way to make fast was to make light.
Polishing served two functions-it removed surface irregularities and machining marks which could be starting points for cracks, and it made for smoother/easier movement of the parts.
So, not at all needed in this case, and no real weight lost.
Just an offering to altar of the Gods of Speed  Roll Eyes

Polished metal parts are not only pleasing to the eye, but they feel good in the hands as well; sensuous curves and all.

I have seen some photos of Burt Munro's land speed record Indian engine/transmission........and he had cut the width of the gears way down, and his rocker arms were spindly!  All in an effort to get stuff light and able to move easier.
