Anyone using Pirelli Route 66 tires ? I put on a set about 8 months ago. The rear was a 130/90/15. The shocks are 1 inch longer than stock. As a set they felt great. At about 900 miles, the rear was shot. The cord was showing through the center and it was just too dangerous to keep on. I couldn't believe it and checked everywhere to see if it was rubbing on something. The pressure was always 32-34, and I ride like a old lady. Maybe this was just a rare bad one ?

There Ain't no tire only last 900 miles on a Suzuki S-40/Savage.

On one of our mountains trips one of our guys had to have a tire (BigZuke) , we were at the same place Dave bought one this year.
So in 15" all the guy had was a 150/80-15 Route 66.

He had to have a tire so ...
after getting home he replaced it with something that didn't rub the inside wells , and he tried selling the 150/80-15 with a weeks worth of mountain ridding on it but none of us bought it.
But during the week the tire didn't show any wear at all.

Do you have a Front brake on that bike ? I guess a feller could slide the back tire till ya wore a hole in it , but nobody is foolish enough to use the back brake for stopping , and maneuvering don't use much tire.

So , yea I'm calling Bluff on this one ...

Not familiar with this tire. I have seen this happen before. Was the tire balanced ? Was the cords showing all the way around the tire or just in a small area ? Pirelli used to be a top shelf tire but who knows it maybe made in China. I don’t ride like an old lady , but even riding like a crazy fool I would be hard pressed to destroy a tire in 900 miles, 1500 miles I can destroy most tires. I suspect the tire was not balanced correctly or not at all.

With the standard pulleys mine would do a burn-out or a wheelie - depending on traction conditions and weather I was sitting down or not. Those days of factory gearing are long gone , the 25 tooth pulley is "So much BETTER" for every day use.

I have considered the Route 66 but have always found a reason to go elsewhere.
This time I'm putting a Shinkio 712 on.

I'm going with the :

Sliding the rear tire and wearing a hole in it. I know one good slide and you've got a flat spot for the life of the tire ... repeated sliding that rear tire will make trash of it in short order. Heck , its like dragging an anchor behind a boat . It don't really slow ya down , it just leaves a mud strip on the road behind ya. Grin

Second choice would be the teen age son and the Burn-out theory. Huh

They are really nice, one was perfectly balanced by itself. I'm assuming rubbing, burnouts or defects.
