With me (200lbs) and my nephew (180lbs) both aboard, I jumped up and down on the rear seat to see if I could get the tire to contact the fender and I could not. That was with the preload at the max setting. I have since suggested to the owner to adjust two clicks softer. Larger arc of travel suggests an increase in said travel but, no, I did not do the math to that end. The biggest issue to overcome was extending the rear brake stay, and then trimming the original stay since it comes 1/8" within the tire sidewall. Overall the chassis exhibits better road manners and the rear suspension is a bit more compliant with the extra leverage.
The above bike is by no means a bobber, it's just a very mild custom for a good friend of mine. I'm working on one for my son with a solo springer seat, a flat rear fender and a sissy bar. I was inspired seeing the extensions on the Ryca CS-1 and the proportions of the Ryca bobber. The S40 needs to be stretched, IMO, when bobbed but I hate hardtails. All my bobber builds have front/rear brakes, working suspension, turn signals, etc...so they can be ridden daily.
