New hobby I think.....

Just got back from vacation to the southern coast of Washington, Long Beach, right above the Columbia River.
You can drive 27 miles, one way, on the sand/beach!

Finally got to run the bar  Shocked

Its where all the water of the mighty Columbia River enters the Pacific Ocean.....
If you don't know of what I speak, look on YouTube, etc, and see the crazy waves, etc, that boats must travel through.....

It wasn't running bad, just bumpy, but you got the sense of how much power this natural occurrence in nature creates....

If we could harness that energy...OH MY  Shocked

My buddy and I went out and caught some Coho salmon on the "open ocean" that is why we traveled through the bar.

Anyway, back to my new hobby....KITE FLYING

They have a big, huge, kite festival there in Long Beach, and watching folks fly them, I went and bought a kite.
I bought a 2 string kite, crashed it the first 2 attempts, then got pretty good with it.
Man, lots more fun than a 1 string, you can really control that thing!

I flew a 4 string too....AMAZING kite, but lots of work, and lots to learn....

Anybody out there flying kits?

Just what i need.
You having Another way to make me wish I was there. As if those crabs weren't enough..

Kites are another kind of addiction.
So many designs, and built for different wind conditions. I like kites, but East Texas just isn't a kite mecca.

Jog...I had no idea it was such a sport....Olympics soon?

You had like 10 people flying 10 4-string kits in formation, it was unreal....  Shocked

Many years ago Deb and I took a 10 day vacation to the Washington and Oregon area - with no plans but to wander.  We had a great time and for some reason every restaurant, hotel and place we visited was spectacular.

We wandered up to the town of Hood River and lucked into a great vintage hotel (Hood River Hotel)....we were lucky to have gotten a room for 2 nights as the area was soon swarmed with kite boarders for a national competition on the Columbia River.  Evidently this one place on the river had a steady breeze.

The wind was really strong when we where there.....I have no idea how you could control any kite in that strong wind (even one without a board and rider).

Yes, kite boarding is real big in the Columbia Gorge, as is windsurfing.

I have another vacation coming up in 3 weeks to this area:
