We scrubbed collision induced paint off of bumpers that way in the seventies. Don't trust a brush because of its color. Use a magnet. Yeah, you can ask how I know.. And yes, I do have a little brass brush in my toolbox.. And I Know it's brass.

Maybe where confused here .you said the new grip doesn't fit INTO the right controls . that's true . the grip fits OVER a plastic tube that fits inside the control housing . you generally have to cut the old grip off and mount the new grip on the old throttle tube.

Thanks for the reply. The throttle tube is gone. Previous owner replaced the stock grips with aftermarket grips that have the boss for the throttle cable end built into it. Honestly I’d rather go back to the plastic unit and regular grips but I can’t seem to locate a replacement.
