I worked in a medical center for 13 years. A lot of self-inflicted injuries are survivable.

Most suicide attempts are lower caliber pistol shots to the head or chest, some to the midsection, I've seen 4 or 5 to the leg.

I don't have the exact statistics from the center I worked at but can get them. I would estimate that firearm related suicide attempts are about 40% survivable as many "attempts" are abandoned at the last second. Many people flinch, even more aren't committed, similar to wrist slashing. Almost all of those are survivable.

Yes, I know... but I don't even like carrying extra credit cards or photos in my wallet. I definitely don't want a big chunk of metal in my pants.

In 30 years here, I've had a gun pulled on me twice,... both times the idiot was drunk. If I'd had a gun, they, or I, would be dead.
