I heard the ascent engine was a chemical engine because there would be less likelihood of failure. If they could mix the chemicals, the reaction would do the rest. No need to rely on ignitors etc...    Also heard the chemical reaction was so harsh that the motors could be used only once. Meaning they used a new motor for each test until they had everything working correctly. The motor install in the LEM would have never been fired until they took off. I wonder if they had back up valves that could be manually opened in case they had some kind of electrical failure. Sort of like bump starting your bike......

I have a relative whose a rockstar in the Science Fiction writing world. Gets asked for autographs now and then, kinda funny.

His point is with SciFi, anything's possible, but there still needs to be an element of possibility, of believability. There's a fine line between a captivating story and an outlandish one. I'm not sure how flat screens would have gone over in Star Trek for example. They always have those monitors with click buttons.

What if they had Ipads that Kirk swiped right on. Would we had thought that's outlandish when we were kids in the 70's or would we have accepted that?

They had phasers, transporters, tricorders, but still used flip phones?...
