We have done this particular topic several times as they keep changing it.

We are currently stuck on a 13.7 billion year old universe that we can see way way way too deeply into, in a big arsed visible sphere that is around 96 billion light years across (This is the Hubble's current limit, the new land based and space based telescopes will be able to see much deeper and then astronomers will have to make up a whole new generation of explanations).

This guy presents a "common sense" current state of the art explanation that covers the expansion of space/time that raises yet more questions that seem to have some answers now, but my poor mental boggle factor jest keeps going up accordingly.

Next EXPANDING question is ------- how many GALAXIES are there in the visible universe?

I mean really, once we have our warp drives all set up, we need room to expand, right ????

Best guess at this point in time is that there is 100 to 200 BILLION galaxies are out there in "visible space" according to our current best information, info which is only good until we get a better form of space based Hubble Telescope, that is ........

And how big is the UNOBSERVABLE universe?

Based on what we currently think about space/time inflation rates, this means that the Unobservable Universe is at least 10^(1030) times the size of our observable Universe! And good luck living long enough to even write that number down

And when you get into swallowing this sorta VERY VERY large stuff, you then gotta go take a bite out of this little multi-island universe cookie ..... and oh BTW, it is also a jaw stretching multi-layered parallel dimensional cookie with lots & lots of parallel dimensional layers to it with lots & lots of thick yummy vanilla icing and four types of ice cream smeared in between the cookie layers.

It is not, us, and the universe. We ARE the universe.
