JENope, the stock piston has always been flat. 8.5:1 is stock CR. I HAVE Wiseco pistons rated at 10.5:1 CR, and they come in bore sizes of 94mm (stock bore so cylinder does not need to be bored, just a good hone-much cheaper), 95mm, 96mm & 97mm. PRIce for any size is $199 with shipping included within the US.

I recommend the 94mm piston. It is significantly less expensive overall and you get 95% of the benefit from the compression increase alone. The small increase in displacement adds only about 5% in performance. The difference from stock is noticeable on the road.
If interested I also have Cams worked be Webcam, and Carburetor Kits using Mikuni VM 36 or 38mm carbs plus everything needed to make a swap.

The cam, carb kit and piston all provide a nice bump in engine efficiency with the total affect of all 3 combined to make the LS650 engine act like a real motorcycle. Cruising at 70-80 is easy, passing on the highway is quick, and Your torque increase runs from shortly after idle to redline. When combined with a good quality and good flowing muffler instead of the stock muffler overall performance improves a bit more. Most folks use an HD Dyna or 1200 Sportster muffler. Virtually new “take-offs” are cheap and work great on our engine. Check a local HD dealer (they usually have piles of them) or check eBay, they are always there.
