Yesterday, A Kid scratched their knee.
Someone washed it off, then said,
'go back and play'.
They learned to fend for themselves.

Today, a Kid scratches their knee.
Someone, Washes it off, treats it with anti-bacterial, coddles them, tells them they are so sad. Tell them they will help them. Tells them they will protect them at all costs. Tell them they will work that that will never happen again.
They are learning, SOMEONE ELSE, will take care of them.

My girl crashed her bike in the front yard.
Got up crying and sniveling.
I watched it and knew she wasn't hurt.
I asked her if she came outside to play or cry.
With quivering voice she eeked out

Plaay..
I said
Great, go play.
If you're gonna cry, go in the house.
Tears GONE,
Grabbed the bike and took off.

She's a force to be reckoned with.
