Lift/Stand recommendation
06/22/19 at 19:45:58

Hi all,

Just bought a 2012 s40 Boulevard as my first bike.  Really loving it.

Anyway, I am not super mechanically inclined but I am eager to learn and I would like to do as much work as I possible on my own.  To that end I went to Harbor Freight today and bought a Pittsburgh ATV/Motorcycle hydraulic floor jack on the recommendation of a friend.

After some experimentation, though, I found it does not work well on the bike.  The distance between supports is too wide so I could not get the bike to rest on it's frame in a stable way.

I am looking for some recommendations on what to use for a lift/stand.  Would be really nice to be able to get the bike off the ground and vertical on my own when I want to check oil level, inspect the belt, etc.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

The key issue you'll have with lifts is that the muffler hangs down below the frame.  You need a 1" thick board and you'll need to cut a notch in it to clear the projections below the frame.

I use one of these. Frame tubes rest on verticals, front wheel remains in a chock.
cheers! Cool

I use a diy stand made of 2x4s recommended on this site, sorry couldn't find the link.  Works like a charm, and fits the budget because i'm cheap.
