McConnell changes his Supreme Court position
06/01/19 at 19:56:46

Some may remember that the current descent into the court packing began when McConnell point blank refused to consider any SC nomination made by Obama because it's an election year.

He's just said that if there is a vacancy in 2020 he will make sure that any Trump nominee is confirmed.

Suckers.

So does hypocrisy.

When the dems control Congress... well... let's hope there's some comeuppance.

What are "their rules"?  When Scalia passed away, Obama still had 9 months left in office and mcconnell blocked any nomination.

Are you saying that was some sort of "lefty move"?

McConnell didn't block the nomination out of some protocol.  He wanted to stack the court, plain and simple.  It worked wonderfully.

Best regards,

Well, at least you admit the hypocrisy.  You've got no defense now.

So then when the dems take over Congress in 2020, you can understand why they'll do the same thing, right? (that's if a republican ever gets elected into the presidency again...) .  Grin

Yup. Blocked Garlands confirmation vote base on the "Biden Rule".

"...a 1992 speech by then-senator Joe Biden, which argued that President Bush should wait until after the election to appoint a replacement if a Supreme Court seat became vacant during the summer or should appoint a moderate acceptable to the then-Democratic Senate."

Used a lefties own words to justify his position then. Lefties didn't like it.

So.
(Putting words in Old McTurtles mouth)

"OK, you guys didn't like your own senator's, then vice president, and now Presidential nominee hopefuls rule when I invoked it then. No problem. We will ignore it this time."

Lefties don't like that either.

Regardless; it's payback for the shameful lies they used to try and destroy Kavanaugh.

LOL - "Biden Rule"?  Well old, it's not a rule... and since when did the GOP start listening to Biden?   Grin There was a whole backstory as to why he made those remarks - and yes, they were short-sighted and wrong.  Oh, and the fact that there was never any confirmation held up because of that pretty much says it all.

Nah - I'd have to go with the GOP owning a lion's share of the hypocrisy today.

But hey - now that you all have actually set the precedent - no crying when a Democratic Congress holds up a nomination from a republican president (if a republican ever gets back into the white house that is...)

Well vers - there's really nothing to defend.

Since there is no "rule".  It was a request from Biden.

But how convenient that the GOP followed that "rule", huh?

Well vers - the precedent has been set by the GOP so it would be stupid not to follow the same path.

But like I said, that's only if a republican becomes president again with a democratic Congress.  And, since Congress and the presidency is likely to swing blue in 2020, I don't see that scenario in the near future.

Regardless of how you twist it, Biden set the rule.
